This aircraft was built at the Howard factory next to what is now the DuPage Airport in West Chicago. The airport at the time belonged to the Navy and Howard built a factory there for wartime production. This aircraft rolled out in the fall of 1943. The landing at DuPage Airport with the mishap apparently was the first time the plane had been at DPA since it was built. It came to rest about 500-700 ft from where it rolled out of the factory 40 years earlier. Pilot was on his way to the EAA Convention at Oshkosh, with intent to sell the aircraft. |
