    Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Harolds Club Transcontinental race. The primary pilot was Ron Reynolds. Started the One Mile Course race, but did not finish. Dropped out at Sioux City, Iowa, with mechanical problems.

    This was a stock F8F-2 with no special racing modifications. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Ron Reynolds. Qualified in 11th place with an average speed of 349.71 mph. Raced in Heat 1. Finished in 5th place with an average speed of 337.19 mph. Raced in the Reserve race. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 358.52 mph.

    Competed in the California 1000 Air Races event. The primary pilot was Ron Reynolds. No time was recorded and finished in 20th place. Raced in the One Mile Course race. No time was recorded and finished in 17th place. Left the race on lap 19 with an overheated engine.

    Competed in the U. S. Cup Race event. The pilots were Ron Reynolds, Michael Geren and. Started the One Mile Course race, but did not finish. Finished 76 laps. The relief pilot Michael Geren blew the engine and crash. Mr. Geren perished.

Incident occurred at the Brown Airport, San Ysidro, CA. This was a local flight from San Ysidro, CA. The engine failed or malfunctioned while in flight. There was a fire or explosion in flight while in flight. There was complete power loss in the failure of one engine. Report remarks include: Internal engine failure during air race...
