    To David Maytag, Colorado Springs, CO keeping c/r N332 {1}.

    From 12 September 1964 to 12 September 1964

    Raced as #9.
    Fitted with a wet wing holding 600 gallons. The race was from Saint Petersburg, FL, to Reno. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Harolds Club Transcontinental race. The primary pilot was Wayne Adams. Raced in the One Mile Course race. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 340.88 mph.

    From 6 September 1965 to 12 September 1965

    Raced as #9, named Maytag Mustang.
    Modification included; airframe cleanup including refairing the gun ports, the installation of a P-51H propeller, adding internal fuel tanks in the outboard wing panels and immediately behind the pilots seat. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Wayne Adams. Qualified in 7th place with an average speed of 321.07 mph. Started Heat 1, but did not finish. Started Heat 2 Gold, but did not finish. Was not able to complete any events due to engine problems.

    Raced as #9, named Maytag Mustang.
    The race was from Saint Petersburg, FL, to Reno. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Harolds Club Transcontinental race. The primary pilot was Wayne Adams. Raced in the One Mile Course race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 331.4 mph.

    From 23 September 1965 to 26 September 1965

    Raced as #9, named Maytag Mustang.
    Competed at the Las Vegas International Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Wayne Adams. Qualified in 4th place with an average speed of 376.09 mph. Raced in Heat 1A. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 364.68 mph. After one heat race the aircraft was grounded due to mechnical problems.

    From 27 May 1966 to 30 May 1966

    Raced as #9, named Maytag Mustang.
    Apparently arrived at the National Air Races Los Angeles, may have qualified and may even have competed in the Unlimited class, but we do not have any documented results (no times or placements). The primary pilot was Russell Schleeh. No results were recorded for the race. Raced in Heat 1. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 357.66 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 366.30 mph.

    From 21 September 1966 to 26 September 1966

    Raced as #9, named Maytag Mustang.
    Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Wayne Adams. Qualified in 4th place with an average speed of 366.84 mph. Raced in Heat 1. Finished in 4th place with an average speed of 327.48 mph. Started the Trophy race, but did not finish.

    Raced as #1.
    Was a stock airplane with an airframe cleanup and fuel capacity added to the outer wing panels. Competed in the California 1000 Air Races event. The primary pilot was Clifford Cummins. Qualified in 13th place with an average speed of 286.93 mph. Raced in the One Mile Course race. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 286.93 mph. Flew non-stop.

    Notes: Bradley Haskin comments: Thats Darryl Greenamyer flying Dave Zeuschels N332 at the 1971 United States Cup at Brown Field in San Diego. I think it actually crashed in 1980, but I am not 100 percent. Either way, it crashed in the mountains and there was not much left. Nothing of this airframe was incorporated into Stiletto. Just utilized the paperwork and registration.

    Competed in the U. S. Cup Race event. The primary pilot was Darryl Greenamyer. Raced in the One Mile Course race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 320.8 mph. The crew had Darryl make his first pit stop too soon, so he had to make a second. Finished 98 laps.

    Crashed.
    Summarized NTSB narrative from report number LAX79FUM25: There was one fatality. Incident occurred at 13:15 hours. The airframe was destroyed. The flight departed from Yuma, AZ, with the destination Oxnard, CA. The airframe failed in flight while in flight. The factors included; separation in flight. Report remarks include: Packard rolls-royce V-1650-7 eng. Flight phase unknown. General disintegration. Incident occurred at or near Nsalton City, CA.

    To Alan Preston Air Racing Team, Dallas, TX keeping c/r N332 {1}.
    Apparently when the airframe crashed not much was left. The paperwork and registration were used for the restoration project.
